Just about an hour's drive from Minneapolis, Crystal Cave was a real treat to visit on a hot day. Tours run continuously throughout the day.

Free lockers are available to store your purse or backpacks while in the cave. You will want to travel light through the cave and save the gift shop for after the tour.

The day we went, our tour group consisted of my family and another family. There was a camp group at the cave that day and we crossed paths with a group of young day campers, but it never felt crowded or rushed.

The cave is naturally 50 degrees all year long. Even though it was warm outside, we wore pants and sweatshirts for the cave tour.

Our knowledgeable tour guide took us down a few stairs and a ramp lower and lower into the cave.

Things get pretty wet down in a cave.

Tiny stalactites.

A bat flew past us a few times down in the cave but never came too close.

The pathway is roomy enough to not feel claustrophobic. There are some lower-ceilinged areas where you have to watch your head.

After the tour, we spent some time in the gift shop. There are items available for a dollar or so on up. We got some tiny gems and a magnet.

There is also an additional panning for gems activity that we skipped today.

There are bathrooms inside and outside. Picnic tables are available to eat your own lunch.

Not stroller friendly, so better for ages 4 and up.

Not much else in the area that we found so we stopped at the new Portillo's in Woodbury on the way home.

Fun day and we will definitely go back to Crystal Cave again!
