Normandale Lake

84th and Normandale Blvd.

Bloomington, MN

School is out and I wanted to get a new habit started. I plan to find different places for a short hike that offer discoveries for my daughter and me.

Normandale Lake was a great place to walk together. We parked just off of 84th St. near Normandale Blvd.

According to the sign, the walking path around the lake was 1.9 miles. Good thing we saw the sign after we walked because my daughter might not have been so enthusiastic.

We found this cool guitar as part of the bike rack near the bandshell.

Further along the path we came upon a snapping turtle.

Watch out! These turtles are big and bitey! We kept our distance.

There were many interesting birds in the area. One of our favorites was in a tree.

It was probably an egret. But I am stumped as to what the closed umbrella looking thing in the tree slightly below might be. Anyone know?

About the last third of the loop, we came upon a lovely bridge and waterfall.

Lots to see. People walking. A few dogs. Water fountain and bathroom at the bandshell. Benches scattered throughout, some picnic tables. Parking off 84th and again on Chalet Dr.

paved trail, stroller-friendly, sunscreen recommended

Very close to Morty's at the Hyland Ski Hill. Lunch available

M - F 11 - 3pm. A great find!
